A Dark and Fruity Spring Bitter
Bishop Gowers Well

This 4.1% abv Spring Ale is dark amber in colour, smooth, rich yet pleasingly bitter and refreshing. Brewed with dark and wheat malts and blend of UK grown hedgerow hops, this fine ale is distinctive with rich malty flavour and a balance of hoppy bitterness.

The Breconshire Brewery is delighted to be able to offer a new Spring Ale - Bishop Gower’s Well. Bishop Gower’s Well is a remarkable well built into the curtain wall of the 14th Century Bishop’s Palace at Llanddew Castle, situated less than 2 miles to the north of Brecon. The well is partitioned and accessible from both sides of the wall, meaning water was available to both the villagers and those within the castle - a very rare yet common-sense arrangement. The well is also associated with the life of St Eluned, a daughter of the King of Brecknock, whose life and martyrdom is linked to a number of wells and springs in the area. For more information on wells and springs in the area, please look at the Wellsprings Fellowship’s website www.monmouthshiregreenweb.co.uk/wellsprings/index.html .

This Spring Ale is brewed with water drawn from under the hills of the surrounding Brecon Beacons National Park, and blend of pale, wheat and dark malts, all from Warminster’s traditional Floor Maltings, which give this beer its dark amber colouring and delicious biscuity malty flavours. A blend of UK grown Boadecia, Challenger and Sovereign hops provide the a complex but pleasingly balanced bitterness, leaving the mouth refreshed and wanting more.
